5 Things to Do This Fall

{By Ellery Sadler}

Ok, it’s officially September. That happened so fast.

And everyone is headed back to school or already back in school with crazy schedules and so much to study. Or if you’re not in school, you’re still working. Strange how y’all don’t get summers off. … sorry about that.

But there are a couple things you absolutely must do this fall so that your stress level stays down and you enjoy the beautiful weather.

1. Have lunch with a friend – this should be a picnic lunch outside somewhere. Just grab some sandwiches and cookies (always must have cookies), and head over to a secluded park or pond or tiny town. Take in the scenery, breath deeply, and enjoy the friendship. (Also make sure you choose a friend who you actually like to be with, since you might end up getting lost or something and have to be with them for several hours. Just kidding. Hopefully that won’t happen.)

2. Take a gratitude walk – with no one else (or if you are extremely extraverted and the thought of being alone gives you nightmares, then you can bring someone). Just walk under the trees turning red and gold and orange and thank God for everything you can think of. It is very relaxing and peaceful if you are feeling stressed.

3. Go shopping – you really must go shopping and buy at least seven scarves and a new flamboyant hat and some boots that look like they are straight out of the army. Actually, you should just buy whatever grabs your eye or just enjoy window shopping. (But new fall clothes are always fun.)

4. Read a novel – or ten or twenty. But at least one. Take a break from your textbooks at some point and enjoy a little bit of fiction. And I’m not talking a trash novel. I mean like a real novel. Such as: Jane Eyre, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Rebecca, Wuthering Heights (if you are in the mood for extremely dark), The Virginian, The Chosen, or The Robe. All of those are very good.

5. Go apple picking – if you can find an orchard near you, apple picking is one of the coolest experiences! It is so much fun to pick your own apples right off the tree. It might even make you feel like pioneer :) And try all the apple-made treats, like apple cider donuts or fresh apple cider or apple pies: they are amazing! Totally a great way to spend an afternoon.

So those are 5 things you definitely need to do this fall. Enjoy the coming of cooler weather and stay thankful.

This thing called life is amazing, y’all.
